Its funny how much better I find a photo of winter to be during summer. Winter is a beautiful time of year, but, in all honesty – it can be a pain as well with its short, cold days. I suppose its just more soothing to have a look at winter in a comfortable summer evening. I used to run up and down that river during winter. I enjoyed it – its a wonderful river and I wanted to photograph it. I shot this with my 8×10″ large format camera on Bergger Pancro 400.
I tried shooting this river on several occasions without any luck. The photos just didn’t represent what I saw… or how I experienced it. I tried a few different angles using different focal lengths. I tried framing it with its surrounding trees and shore. But nothing really worked. As a last resort I figured I’d get close and I shot this.
To my pleasant surprise it was what I was after. Even though a lot of what I like about that river, its surroundings, is left out this represent how I experienced that river. It is the water that defines it, and when I run along it it is the running water that sets my course.
